Position Summary Information

Job Summary / Basic Function

Provides instruction for students enrolled in Speech courses in the General Education and Developmental studies department. Must be competent to teach courses in public speaking, interpersonal communication and other topics related to the discipline. Additional duties include advising, tutoring, student counseling, recruiting, and working with advisory committees. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and summer classes on the LIT campus and at our Early College High School campuses.

• Advise, tutor and recruit students.
• Maintain office hours.
• Teach classes during the fall, spring, and summer semesters as required by the department (May include day, evening weekend and Early College High School).
• Attend Teaching and Learning Center to upgrade teaching skills.
• Awareness of national issues and trends in education.
• Assist in the development of curriculum as needed.
• Perform related duties as required.
• Be willing to develop skills necessary to teach on-line courses.
• Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in Speech or Communication or Master’s Degree with 18 graduate hours in Speech or Communication from a regionally accredited institution is required.

A working knowledge in Microsoft Office Applications is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Community college or technical college teaching experience in Speech is preferred.
